They had an entire debate to pull quotes out of context from, and the worst they could do is “he agrees with McCain on some things”? This is supposed to be a reason to vote for McCain? I don’t get it.

You’re not meant to trust them, just listen and subconsciously absorb. If they’re controversial enough to get free repeats on news shows then so much the better.
Also I would have assumed that they’d have a legal requirement that the claims made in the ads are true, but looking at McCain’s, that seems not to be true.
