I've just rediscovered a great use for knowing about the Bible:

Mocking believers more effectively.

The bit where they say the Doctor saving one family from Pompei. Surely it'd be far more sensible to say that was "surely a reference to the Battle of Jericho"?...

God/Doctor destroys a city but saves one family.

Morons.

I think really they're just generically religious themes: resurrection, prophecy, magic man from the sky fixes everything, saving the world, morality... Given that all religions are works of sci-fi fantasy there should be no surprise that the same themes emerge in self-confessed sci-fi fantasy stories.

Personally, I don't care if he says "creation". I casually refer to God all the time. We shouldn't tiptoe around our own language for anyone.

I personally do think there are a lot of parallels between Doctor Who and religion; unfortunately for your local religious cranks, I think the religion is Judaism. I don't really want to go into the reasons here, although I certainly do detect disturbingly religious connotations in the show. (And why, oh why, does the Doctor continually refer to the universe as "Creation"?! That, like, implies something.)

When you compare Jesus and Dr. Who, I think it's pretty clear Who wins.

Today I had a short discussion with Paul trying to link Mario to Jesus. This is what I could think of:

> Both save people
> Both are carpenters
> Both appear in (apparently entirely separate) adult and baby forms.

I wonder what K9 represents.

I like how people of the Church try so hard to link Doctor Who and Jesus.

I'd love them try and connect Torchwood and Jesus.

"In this scene, Owen has come back from the dead and is claiming that there is no life after death and no heaven. Here, he is showing us that if you live a life of sex, you will be sent straight to Hell."

"Jack, having been resurrected, is obviously referencing Lazarus. However, in this scene where he's having a threesome with a Dalek and a Rutan he is.. portaying... Judas."
