New Welcome Message Thread
October 7th, 2007I’ve redesigned the front page, and I’ve activated the new Welcome Messages thread. There’s not much in it, so feel free to post and claim a healthy percentage of screentime. Also feel free to re-post things from the old Welcome Message thread. Especially the “rules” one and the terrific drug song.

The welcome message saying my browser sucks?!

No, the one on the http://www.apathysketchpad.com front page — the one telling you your browser sucks is there because your browser sucks. I put time and effort into making this skin look nice and then I discovered that Microsoft’s browser is so poorly written that it doesn’t show it correctly. Essentially I was faced with two options: change the whole thing until it did work in IE (”kowtowing”), or stick on a message explaining that the rendering errors IE users see are their own fault for using inferior software, and not my fault for writing bad HTML code.
I intensely dislike the way Microsoft bully people into conforming to their proprietary standards. They’re exploiting the internet and slowly ruining it for their own financial gain, and I’ll not be a part of that.
If your browser is too crappy to display this website then you should ditch it and use a better one. There are links at the top of the page where you can get one for free.

This is true. I never use IE anymore - Firefox is much more useful
