I Need To Score Some Insulin

September 13th, 2007

I’ve noticed that people who are usually perfectly rational have a habit of becoming dangerously insane whenever the talk turns to the smoking ban. But I’m also aware that there’s no particular reason why they should do that rather than me. So instead of trying to summarise, I’ll simply post exactly what I said yesterday and exactly what Martin said in reply, and let you draw your own conclusions.

What I Said

The simple fact of the matter is that it’s not healthy for a person to be totally incapable of going for a few hours without a fix of an addictive drug, especially when it’s one that fills the room with smoke, toxic or not.

What He Said

Back to addiction again. Similarity is food, insulin. You seem to be saying that addiction is bad in itself, with smoke (toxic or not) only an ‘especially’. Obviously a new meaning of the word ‘healthily’ I haven’t previously come across.

So who’s insane?

I can’t even make any sense out of what He said.

Don’t capitalise the pronoun. He’s not God.

If he can call food a vice with a straight face, he has to be.

For reference, here’s the discussion in question.

    Here’s some more great argument.

    What Sean Said:

It’s a health issue and it’s also a quality of life issue. Non-smokers outnumber smokers considerably &, in workplaces and enclosed public spaces should have the right to breathe clean air.

So how does public poisoning advocate and general irritant ST describe this callous act of The Government Doing What The Majority Of The Public Wants?

    What ST Said:

Mob rule - that’s all that is.

  6. Gravatar Martin Says:

How do you know I’m not God? I do move in mysterious ways.

This is what I said when Martin here told me that before the ban the pub market catered for everybody due to its size and variety. Some of you will be able to verify it first hand:

When I was at university in Leeds there were, to my knowledge, exactly two non-smoking bars within a bus ride of town, and both were prohibitively expensive, the cheapest being the most remote. That’s not catering for people who don’t like smoke.

This is what ST said to that:

Errr it is. That’s exactly what it was doing. It certainly wasn’t catering for smokers.

The lengths some people will go to to be indignant is actually impressive.
