June 29th, 2005We just turned the TV over, to discover Newsnight was on. The voiceover started “—the self-proclaimed world expert in the condition, who has written extensively about his own symptoms.” Right at that moment I would have given anything for the condition to be narcissism.
Fortunately I was saved anything because that’s exactly what condition they were talking about. It’s now my favourite story of the year.

Probably not. I’m assuming from this morning’s newspaper that the “self-proclaimed world expert” wasn’t really the focus of the item (though of course he could have been; we were just channel hopping) — but I expect you’ll be able to find lots of webpages about the story he was probably attached to, in which a judge dropped a murder charge to one of manslaugher because the defendant had narcissistic personality disorder.
That part is not my favourite story. The part about murder. No.
